How admission works

All seats in government and aided polytechnics in Kerala are filled through one state-wide single-window process run by the Directorate of Technical Education. You apply once on the admission portal and list the colleges and programmes you want. You do not apply to this college separately.

This page explains the rules in the 2026-27 prospectus, approved by G.O.(Rt) No. 618/2026/HEDN dated 01-06-2026. The prospectus is reissued every year, so it is the final word for the year you apply. On this portal, our institution code is M01. Each year of study has two semesters, the programme runs for six semesters over three years, and it starts with induction training.

Who can apply

  • You must be an Indian citizen.
  • You must have passed SSLC, THSLC or an equivalent exam that makes you eligible for higher studies.
  • All four programmes here are in Stream I, which needs Mathematics, English and Science.
  • You are not eligible if you took more than two chances to pass. SAY and betterment attempts are not counted as chances.
  • CBSE students: Science is used in place of Physics and Chemistry, and you need Mathematics Standard. If you passed between 2010 and 2018, also submit the Annexure XIV undertaking.

Keralite and Non-Keralite applicants

Non-Keralites can apply but get no reservation or fee concession. To show you are a Keralite, submit one of these:

  • SSLC, passport or birth certificate showing you were born in Kerala.
  • The same document for a parent, along with proof of your relationship.
  • A certificate from the Village Officer or Tahasildar.
  • Annexure XVII, for children of All India Service officers.

How your rank is worked out

Your rank comes from your SSLC grades. There is no entrance exam. Each grade has a point value:

A+AB+BC+CD+
9876543

For Stream I, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English matter most:

  1. Main subjects: add the points for those subjects, multiply by 0.85, and divide by the number of those papers.
  2. Other subjects: add the points for the rest, multiply by 0.15, and divide by the number of those papers.
  3. Index: add the two results. Subtract 0.5 if you passed in your second chance. Natives of Wayanad get 0.5 added, for Wayanad seats only.

If two applicants tie, the higher main-subject score ranks first, then Mathematics, Physics or Science, and English. If they are still tied, the older applicant ranks first.

How seats are divided

Some seats are set aside first:

CategoryShare
Persons with disabilities (40% or more)5%
THSLC students (Stream I)10%
VHSE students from related trades (Annexure IV)2%, at least one seat per programme
Special reservations (Annexure V)Includes children of ex-servicemen, defence and central police personnel, Anglo Indians, sports, NCC, orphans and nominees

The remaining seats are shared out like this:

GroupShare of remaining seats
General merit50%
Economically weaker sections (EWS)10%
SEBC30%: Ezhava 9, Muslim 8, Backward Hindu 3, Latin Catholic 3, Dheevara 2, Viswakarma 2, Kusavan and related communities 1, Other Backward Christian 1, Kudumbi 1
Scheduled Caste8%
Scheduled Tribe2%

Unfilled SC seats go to ST applicants and the other way round, then to OEC applicants, and then to open merit. SC and ST admissions are provisional, subject to verification by KIRTADS.

Tuition Fee Waiver

The Tuition Fee Waiver scheme adds up to 5% extra seats over the approved intake. It is for families with an income up to ₹8 lakh a year and is given on merit. It covers tuition fee only, and it runs only in programmes that filled at least half of their intake the year before.

Allotments and your options

The portal publishes a provisional rank list and a trial allotment first. You can correct your details and rearrange your options once, using an OTP. Two allotments follow. No letter or memo is sent, so check the portal yourself. You can list up to 30 options, each one a college and programme together.

When an allotment is published, you have these choices:

  • You got your first option: join by the last date, or you will not be considered for further allotments.
  • You got a lower option and are happy with it: join it and cancel all your higher options.
  • You want something better but also want to keep this seat: register at any government or aided polytechnic and wait. Your certificates are checked, but no fees or documents are taken. You must then join the seat you get in the last allotment.
  • You want something better and can give up this seat: wait for your higher options. Your current allotment is cancelled.
  • You do not join your final allotment: it is cancelled, and you may still be considered for spot admission.

After the allotments come district counselling at nodal polytechnics and then spot admission. If you are admitted more than once, only the last admission stays valid. Someone else can join for you with the Annexure XIII authorisation, but you must produce the originals within a week. Changing institution is possible only into the third and fifth semesters.
